US Figure Skating Basic Skills Program The basic skills program consists of a comprehensive lesson/ test structure that is exciting, rewarding, safe and fun. It has proven to be an overwhelming success across the United States. Whether your goal is to achieve Olympic fame or simply enjoy the recreational benefits of skating, the basic skills program is for you .
NEW THIS SEASON.......Performance Class!
New this season. Skaters in SPS-basic 8 will explore the artistic side of the sport of figure skating. Skaters that participate in this class are invited to participate in the Wooster Figure Skating Club's holiday and spring shows. Group numbers for the shows will be choreographed during the class. Skaters must subsequently be enrolled in their badge level LTS class or be taking private lessons.
ALSO NEW.............Off-Ice Dance Class! Skaters get a taste of ballet, jazz and hip hop dance.
Snow Plow Sam (ages 3-5)
This class is specially designed for 3-5 yr olds. Toys and games are used in this class to encourage the confidence and enjoyment of the learning experience. You will be amazed at how fast children of this age learn to skate. This is the class where parents can watch with a hot chocolate and not have to be a participant. Helmets and gloves/ mittens are required.
Basic 1-8
Designed for skaters age 5 and up and tots who have passed Snow Plow Sam 3. Group lessons will focus on developing a strong skating foundation while preparing skaters for advancement in both figure skating and hockey.
Basic Hockey
Designed to teach the fundamentals of hockey skating. All elements will be taught without a stick or puck as proper skating techniques are the primary focus of the levels. Skaters must have passed Basic 2 or have permission to enroll in this class.
Adult Basic
The adult Curriculum is designed for the beginner adult skate to promote physical fitness, improve balance and coordination while learning proper skating techniques.

The Club Prep program introduces different disciplines in figure skating including; Jumping, Spinning, and Moves in the Field. This class is in a group lesson format for skaters who have successfully passed onto the Freeskate levels. Skaters currently enrolled in Basic 7 or 8 may participate with an instructor’s approval.
